Gossip

Two ladies were caught up in the loudest of talks
Like the Agbor dancer entangled in the maze of music
Little did they care to know what happens around them
Or what transpires to call for their immediate attention

An owl from the farthest country cries out to the people
In response to the arrival of the awaited
Everyone journeyed passed the two gossips to the reception
Who positively failed to heed to the cry of the owl

The cracked melodious tune of the forlorn bird
Fades far away dissolving into the acrid air
Trees shook in fear and hear each other groan
As the spring watched the moth gnaw the grasses

Like the foolish virgins left to sulk behind
The ladies preferred to wail, no help to come their way
As they watched their relatives take their places
And wished they had listened to the cry of the owl
